The Kooks – Sway

The Kooks stormed into the music scene way back in 2006 and proved to have a #2 spot for a debut album but then it looks like these guys are definitely shaking up the former indie music spotlight. Their recent album, Konk peaked at #1 in the UK albums chart in April 2008. Their newest release “Sway” is a little bit off the hook.
Sway, which is the third single off from their latest LP is actually a slow-rock slash ballad tune. It opens a bit of a guitar strings then incorporated with squeaky electric guitars that make the sound a little bit POP-ish. The chorus is big with vulnerable vocals from Pritchard but a bit predictable bridge for a pop-rock ballad. Nonetheless, they’re stepping up from their comfort zone and gives us with a new sound of indie. Maybe the indie tag to the group can now be labeled off because they’re definitely not what we all think they are.

RATING: 3.5/5
