Gabriella Cilmi – Sanctuary

You’ve all heard Gabriella’s Rexona-deodorant ad song “Sweet About Me” and fell in love with it to make it one of the biggest hits of 2008. She’s recently the Big Winner in the recent ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) awards garnering the big gongs such as Single of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year etc. At 17, that is a milestone for her. After Sweet About Me and the not so impressive flop-ness of “Save The Lies”, Gabriella releases this new track “Sanctuary” which is slowly being a grower on my playlist to say the least.

At first listen, you would say “WTH?” Is this a single material? I don’t think so. But then, after few spins of the track I suddenly fell in love with it. Of course, with materials all going in from the same tracks produced by Duffy, Winehouse this proves to be a hit. It’s not as big as “Sweet About Me”, but definitely better than “Save The Lies” or “Don’t Wanna Go To Bed Now”. It’s a statement to Cilmi’s absolutely stunning vocal abilities which are very soulful and very charismatic that proves to be a contrary for her age. Anyways, she’s turning 18 next year which is good for her. Xenomania, the producers behind Girls Aloud does it again with this one.

RELEASE: November 10, 2008
