Gabriella Cilmi – Warm This Winter

I would have to say this is one of the best christmas songs this year. Although it’s just a cover version, I would have to say it didn’t sound one. Since it’s christmas, I would like to make a review of this great great holiday treat.

“Warm This Winter” is a cover version of Australian singer Gabriella Cilmi of Connie Francis’ single. Gabriella has been around a lot this year especially in her home country, Australia which she bagged almost all nominations she got into the 2008 ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) awards including Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist bla bla bla… The big problem is, she only has still 1 hit under her belt, the infectious yet inescapable “Sweet About Me”. In line with her “success”, her recording company have decided to release a deluxe edition of her debut album “Lessons To Be Learned”. The track “Warm This Winter” is included.

Gabriella’s ever soulful, matured vocals nevertheless dominated the song. She sang it with grace, warmth and likeability towards her audience. It was featured on an ad in a UK company and she immediately got the buzz because of her version. There’s nothing negative about this version. She delivers it in time for the holiday season and it’s a warmth offering to the bloody cold winter season the western hemisphere is experiencing as of the moment. It’s perfect with a hot sip of hot choco with marshmallows ain’t it?

Unfortunately, she can’t release this song in Australia right now. Too bad… Tsk tsk.. Maybe summer of next year!
