Single Review: Katy Perry – "Waking Up In Vegas"

Unfortunately, the success of her third single, “Thinking of You” wasn’t great or not at all compared to the phenomenal input of “I Kissed A Girl” and “Hot ‘N’ Cold”. The single gained only very disappointing chart positions from both sides of the Atlantic. “Thinking of You” was a nice song – at least to me and most of us here in the Philippines. Having said that, “TOY” hit “Flopsville” and her new single “Waking Up In Vegas” is expected to deliver good. So far, it’s getting the right success it deserves hitting the top 10 in the US and so far, the top 20 in the UK.

“Waking Up In Vegas” or which I personally call, “WUIV” is a decent pop song. Challenging impenetrable rock sounds from the likes of Avril Lavigne and P!nk combined. “WUIV” lives up to my expectations. The song’s rock-summery ambience generosity never failed to lift Katy’s downfall in “TOY”. I’m sure this will be an another Katy song that might never go to #1 but can equal or outsell a #1 single.

I think Katy is seen as a good-time girl – great for party tunes, not so wonderful for ballads and slow tunes. Thinking Of You didn't interest me at all, but Waking Up In Vegas was a return to form.

I think Katy is being underrated when it comes to singing ballads. I think she has a gorgeous voice and she just needs to have something that would put her away from party anthems that we are used to hear from her.
